Small but mighty Home improvements

Home improvement is a hobby I have grown to love over the last year while I have become a stay at home mom. After joining the website Pinterest, I have found a lot of great ideas for improving the home. One of the areas that I have focused on is our basement. Our basement is partially finished so there was much room for improvement. With a few simple changes at a low cost I have made our basement a lot more enjoyable and comfortable. We have a concrete floor that was a grey color with many marks on it making it very unattractive. I purchased 2 gallons of concrete paint in the color black and painted the floors. In about three hours the basement already looked transformed from just a simple coating of paint. The steps that lead down to our basement are wood and they had many scuff marks on them so I put a fresh coating of grey paint on the steps and the walls leading down to the basement.

I then took some time purchasing black and white photo prints from Ebay of old actors and singers such as Elvis, Johnny Cash, Marilyn Monroe, etc.. and framed them and hung them in the hallway leading down to the basement. It looked completely transformed with a very low cost. The other areas of our basement are a living room area, office area and a bar room. To make it a little more warm and homey I bought a few large floor rugs from asda at £19.99 a piece for each of the areas. I bought slip covers for our old couches from the 70’s so now they are a solid black suede material and look like new! The other area off our office I turned into a play area for my daughter where she has her little kitchen and doll set along with a chalkboard on the wall.

The bar room we fixed up with some new pictures, a dart board and a popcorn machine. With a little work and little money, our basement has become a favourite area of our house now!
