Decorating a Library…

Decorating a library room is a great way to add charm to any home. If you don’t have a library, you can create one by implementing some decorative techniques. The first step is to find a space in the house that can serve as a good place for reading, writing, relaxing, and even socializing. Libraries can be elaborate, ornate, and spacious, but they can also be simple, intimate, and cozy.

A worthwhile library needs equally worthwhile furniture. A coffee table is ideal, because who doesn’t like to have some tea or coffee nearby while reading? End tables or stands can be good for the same purpose. Reclining chairs or comfy chairs with footrests also make for great places to curl up with a book. If you are planning on using the room for entertaining too, make sure you have a couch that is large enough to accommodate a few people. Lighting is obviously important in a library.

There must be a sufficient amount if you plan on actually getting any reading done. Wrought iron lamps have a rustic feel and can be used for a variety of styles. Whether you’re going for a rustic country look, a modern vibe, or something with old-fashioned charm, wrought iron is very flexible. Lamps tend to be a better choice than light fixtures for libraries, and they make great accents that are practical as well as attractive. Perhaps the most important aspect of a library is a bookcase. A wooden bookcase can add charm to almost any space. If you’re on a budget, try buying one secondhand and refurbishing it. It should be noted though, that there are many new bookcases that are quite reasonably priced. When choosing a bookcase, style is an important aspect, but so is size.

If you get one that is too large, it can overwhelm your space and make it feel cramped. Go too small and you won’t have enough room for your books, knickknacks, family albums, etc. Explore your options and don’t rush into purchasing one. When you finally do have a bookcase, make sure to stock it with all of your favorite reads. You can put small trinkets in there to spice up the look. A clock, an old-fashioned radio, or even some family pictures can make things feel personal and cozy.

You might want to finish off the space with a basket – a simple wicker one will do wonders – filled with some magazines to enjoy in your newly furnished library.
