Home improvement is an interesting thing to do when you own a house, because you are able to add value to your property while also doing something that most people enjoy. Usually, people add something like a garden or a new drive way to their house in an attempt to make their property more useful and practical for their needs, or to add value to the house that they have purchased. When I was a child, my parents bought a house and my dad embarked on a series of home improvement tasks that would improve the value of the house, as well as make it more fun and enjoyable for my two brothers and I.

The first thing he did was put in a wall behind the middle yard so that it could add some eye appeal when someone looked out the back window and into the middle yard. After he did this, he planted two magnolia trees so that we could see the big and beautiful magnolia flowers that bloom in Georgia in the summer. After putting in the two new trees, he started the biggest project yet by hiring a construction company to build a basketball court. They started by laying down a wood foundation, and then they called in the cement truck to dump cement and create the court. After this was done, he drew the three point line and the foul line on the court so we could know the distances and difficulties of particular shots we were taking.

This is an example of a home improvement project that not only makes the property more enjoyable for the current owners, but also adds value to the house when my family wants to sell it. Instead of simply advertising an ugly backyard, my dad can show off the beautiful new magnolia trees and the freshly painted basketball court to attract buyers who like basketball or have kids that enjoy playing sports.

I hope to do a home improvement project similar to the ones my dad did one day, because I think it will add value to my home and I think it will be fun and interesting to do.
