There are many ways to spruce up a boring or cookie cutter living room with just one accessory or item! In a standard living room you will find things such as chairs, couches, televisions, coffee tables, or the occasional bit of clutter, but none of these usually contribute to the room’s feeling of “home”. It’s the original touches made by you that identify your room as a homey and well thought out space.
One easy example of a personal touch on a regular room would be the addition of a rug or floor covering. Rugs really say a lot about your personal style, who you are, and what the feel of your home may be. For example, a large Oriental rug may tell others that you enjoy the finer things in life and have spent a lot of time and money on decoration, while a plain red shag carpet may show a kitschy side to your personality.
Whatever floor covering you choose will tie the room together even if you don’t have many other forms of decoration. If you don’t have the money to spend on a floor covering, consider adding something to your walls to liven up the room! A great example would be a painting or a piece of artwork.
Some people may choose to go with some original photography from their own lives while others prefer stock photos taken by professional photographers. Other people may enjoy going to local art shows, craft fairs, or vendor expos and checking out what the local artists have to offer, which can be an inexpensive way to express your own creativity in a room!
If you’re more of a classical person, you can grab a print of a famous piece of artwork to display proudly in your room. Whatever your budget or taste, adding an item or two into an otherwise boring living room can say a lot about you and what you enjoy! Take some time to explore your local vendors, artists, shops, and surroundings and I’m sure you will find something that speaks to you and that works perfectly in your home.
